Understanding Rape in West Yorkshire

September 20, 2010

news-detail

Working in partnership with Durham University, this report presents the findings of research commissioned by the West Yorkshire Rape Strategic Group in order to fully explore responses to rape across the region. The research had two broad aims:
– To develop an up to date profile of rape across West Yorkshire
– To identify gaps in service provision

A range of legislative, policy and research/consultation developments has been introduced nationally to enhance the criminal justice response to rape and improve support services for victim-survivors. In order to focus on the West Yorkshire region, a range of different local sources form the basis of the report, including: police data; surveys of support service organisations and victim-survivors; and interviews with individuals in strategic posts on violence/community safety.
