Project Soteria

news-detail

Operation Soteria was developed to address ongoing concerns about the police response to rape and serious sexual offences (RASSO). Building on an initial pilot with Avon & Somerset Police called Project Bluestone, Soteria was an academic-practitioner partnership designed to create radical improvements through a six-pillar approach looking at: (1) suspect-focused investigations; (2) repeat suspects; (3) engaging with victims; (4) learning, development and wellbeing of police officers and staff; (5) data and performance; and (6) digital forensics. This police-academic collaboration is widely considered ground-breaking and game-changing and has given rise to the National Operation Model (NOM) for RASSO, which has been adopted nationally by police forces across England and Wales. CWASU held Pillar 5 on data, which was led by Jo Lovett.
