The event chaired by Purna Sen, Visiting Professor at CWASU will include a talk, and rallying call to action,The founder-president of Apne Aap Women Worldwide and Apne Aap International, Ruchira Gupta has, for over three decades, been campaigning and working for a world where no girl or woman is bought or sold and has helped in the introduction and shaping of anti-trafficking policies and laws across the globe, including the Indian anti-trafficking law.
Her work has now inspired her to pen her debut YA novel, I Kick and I Fly, which was published earlier this year by Rock the Boat, Oneworld Publications. The story is at its heart a powerful adventure story which follows the story of 14yr old Heera who after a chance encounter with a Kung-fu instructor offers her a way out of her destiny of being sold into prostitution. Ruchira hopes the book will show how storytelling based on truth can change the world.
