Session Three: The Women’s Liberation of Rojava, Syria

Rojava was established in northern Syria 2012 and later gained widespread recognition for its victory over ISIS.

They are building an anti-patriarchal, multi-ethnic, grass-roots democracy and an ecologically sustainable economy with women sharing power with men at every level. This has entailed new institutional and cultural approaches to violence against women and girls, which include jail time and compulsory gender equality education for persistent domestic abusers. Sharia provisions have been abolished.

Join CWASU, Rahila Gupta in London and Behiye Murad (online from Rojava) on Wednesday 9th April 17.00-18.30 (UK), to learn about what they have been doing and what we might learn from their efforts.

Rahila Gupta is chair of Southall Black Sisters, a journalist and activist

Behiye Murad is Administrator of the Mala Jin (Women’s Centre) in Qamishlo, Rojava.
